Ok, my wife and I are planning to launch this site "publicly" tomorrow (Monday the 14th) after the first software update, but since someone's already trying to out us we figured you guys could get a sneak peak anyway. ;)

The site is moms4mom, a place for Moms (and Dads) to ask questions about parenthood.

So far we've been running it in a "private" beta of our own, meaning Tammy invited some of her mom friends to take a look, try it out and give us some feedback.

That resulted in some great insight into how a non-programmer audience views a site like this. The first major issue was the registration system. The login page wasn't very helpful from their point of view. We added an faq question just about how to register for the site, and how to get an OpenID if you don't have one. We also linked to that question directly from the Welcome box that new users see on the right. That seemed to help.

So far the feedback from moms has been great. All the feedback about the idea itself has been positive, and someone commented she would have liked something like this when she was expecting her first. We really think this has the potential to become a great resource for moms on the web.

Go ahead and try it out. Feel free to share it with your mom friends. We'd really appreciate any feedback you guys have. I've got a contact email in my user profile on the site.

EDIT: As of Sept. 23, we're getting lots of great questions and answers. Traffic is small but growing at a steady pace. We're quite happy with the software, Fog Creek's support, and certainly the community in general.

The change from a traditional discussion site to a question and answer with rated votes seems to be a difficult change for some of the new people, but that could be resolved with a good number of questions and sufficient traction. Being able to adjust the reputation thresholds would help, too.

I just set it up a few minutes ago... the impetus is my own experience as a non-handyman owning and restoring our first historic house, and now our second. Most home repair sites are either poorly designed, or generic forum off-shoots of various media properties (HGTV, This Old House, various home CAD software programs, etc.).

Home repair, like software, is part engineering, part best practices, and part art, so I think it's a good fit for a SE-like site. Wish me luck, and please come start posting some questions!

A site for all aspects of digital music production, including software (cubase, ableton, sampling), hardware, mixing and so on.

The site will fill up slowly in the coming few weeks as I spread the word and get people to post on it, plus fill it in myself.

It will probably end up having a large amount of people linking their own WAVs/MP3s on it, so having a way to integrate this into the site will be a nice challenge. I'd really love to see something similar to the way the podcasts appear on the stackoverflow blog site - an embedded flash player.

Primarily dogs and cats, but any type of pet is welcome (as long as it's non-human). I haven't tested in older IE browsers nor Safari, but since I'm not advertising it outside of friends, family, and meta I'll get to that this weekend.

Petnibs was a pet social network site idea I've had for over two years, but never had the time to get it off the ground. One of the sub-sections of the site was to do a Mahalo-esque type knowledge base and with SE I am quickly able to flip it around and get that portion off the ground.

I'm super excited about the whole thing and can't wait for people to begin using it!

Move The Cannon is for engineering students.

The site went up Monday night. I've had a chance to talk to a couple people and of course I have to say "yes it's cannon with two n's" each time. Fortunately the misspelled domain is also pointing to the site.

A fairly large topic scope but as someone who is in the music industry I find that the community seems to lend itself to that broad of a scope as most serious musicians play more than one instrument on at least some level and are usually playing, recording and performing. We launched Unshelved® Answers today. It's a community for exchanging information about libraries and everything in them. People ask librarians for help all the time, but there are surprisingly few places for librarians to ask for help - a mishmash of listservs and message boards. As soon as I saw StackExchange I knew we had found the answer. And with the librarian-heavy readership of my comic strip Unshelved we have a ready-made audience. Let the information dissemination begin!

It's a community chat & discussion forum for anyone and everyone who wants to post, talk about or ask vampire & werewolf trivia questions, and link up with other people who are into the same topics. Also a place where people can ask about & get extra or "hidden" info on vampire & werewolf tv series or literature, and expose unknown themes & facts.

What with all the new Twilight, vampire & werewolf movies out latley we figured it would be good to cater to fanclubs and try to supply a universal platform where we can (hopefully) get lots of members.

ReviseThis. If ReviseThis.com works as envisioned, you post your writing as a new question, and others answer by revising a copy. They offer their rewrite in reply. Only the rewrite. Not a review of your writing, or comments or advice, or stars or tomatoes to rate your writing. Just a rewrite. So Question and Answer become Request and Revision. Not sure if StackExchange can be forced that far from its previous purpose, but this could sidestep the swamp that online writing workshops fall into. Samples submitted would be shorter, or who would revise them? No place for bickering about personalities and tastes. An unspoken challenge keeps answers from getting recklessly or wantonly destructive: "Let's see you do better."

Questions, Answers, and Reviews for any mobile application on any device or platform. This is a little bit of a different spin on the traditional SE site and I'm not 100% sure it will work but I'm giving it a try.

The driving motivation for me getting the site up and running was really the reviews and the rest kind of just fell into place. The main goal of the site is to produce honest app reviews. I recently read an articale on the reliability of the app store reviews and professional reviews you read on other websites. Many are fake. Appears that if you have enough money you can hire posers to write good reviews for you. How many times have you checked how many positive reviews an app has before you downloaded it?....and trusted what you were reading? I wanted to see if an SE site would lend itself well as a place for people to enter their reviews, with the assumption that the community will keep the information honest and pure. A review request for a particular app on a particular device is the question and all of the answers are the reviews.

The site also welcomes questions like "What is the best twitter app for the iPhone?" or "Is there a wine application for android?". It knows the answers to these questions are opinion based but is counting on the community to use the voting and collaboration features to help ensure the honest information becomes most visible to other users on the site.

Pipe dream?.....maybe. There will be a lot of opinions floating around on the site, not like you traditional SE site. Can this opinion be effectively moderated in this setting?...don't know. Come contribute to the community....help get some good content out there......and we'll see!
