One day I've started to typing in a tag name missing the fact I have had selected the wrong keyboard layout (Russian instead of English). To my surprise, SO has offered me a list of tags nevertheless!

This question may be not very practical, but it intrigues me a lot. Why such a feature ever exists on an English-only site (maybe a third-party library does that?..), and what other languages are supported?

(And yes, it is indeed awesome!)

What's the question here? I presume that foreign characters are automatically mapped to their English alphabet equivalents, just like they are in many other places on the site. It's quite useful for @user replies in comments, where people might have these characters in their user name. –  Cody Gray Aug 15 '11 at 10:43
