Almost 2 years ago there was a debate over the ambiguous "mdb" tag, which some users believe to be "message-driven-bean" and some relate it to Jet-DB, Microsoft's database engine that usually comes in a file with ".mdb" extension.

See: Ambiguous tag: mdb and MS-Access or MDB or Access-Database-Engine or MS-Jet-ACE?

Despite the current tag description saying clearly it's related to message-driven beans, it is more or less equally often used for questions related to both technologies. It seems futile fighting it by convincing the other half (and I'm not saying which half — MS or Java) not to use the tag.

I suggest to accept this ambiguity — but warn everyone that such problem exists. So, I'd like to change the "mdb" tag description to something like "Discouraged, as it both stands for ... and ..." and instruct either to use message-driven-bean or jet and ms-access. I'm curious of your opinion.

An alternative would be to blacklist the tag (after retagging) –  Paŭlo Ebermann Sep 5 '11 at 11:55

@PaŭloEbermann Isn't that a bit cruel solution? Anyway, I don't have enough reputation to do it, would have to talk someone else into it. –  MaDa Sep 5 '11 at 12:59

I think blacklisting can only be done by the developers ... and this post here is just for discussing this, isn't it? –  Paŭlo Ebermann Sep 5 '11 at 13:03

There are less than 150 questions. About half of them aren't tagged either ms-access or java, so it suddenly becomes a reasonable number to retag by hand... –  Charles Sep 5 '11 at 14:16
