Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 134 Stack Exchange communities.

This user seems to have untrimmed username.

<td style="width:230px" class="fn nickname"><b>Henry </b></td>

Is that normal/by-design or is it really minor bug?

How did you discover that? –  jjnguy Sep 8 '11 at 17:06

@jjnguy Jquery update all browsers –  genesis Sep 8 '11 at 17:14

oh, neat! That does look odd. –  jjnguy Sep 8 '11 at 17:15

@jjnguy maybe it is untrimmed for unregistered users? –  genesis Sep 8 '11 at 17:16

I tried to add a space and a tab to the end of my name. It didn't work. –  jjnguy Sep 8 '11 at 17:17

@jjnguy odd a bit more. –  genesis Sep 8 '11 at 17:21

Wow, what's the reason for that downvote? Is it wrong? –  genesis Sep 8 '11 at 17:22

Disagreement, he probably only read your question title and doesn't want untrimmed usernames. –  Tom Wijsman Sep 8 '11 at 17:31

@TomWijsman: ah, probably. edited –  genesis Sep 8 '11 at 17:32

status-bydesign –  staticx Sep 8 '11 at 17:43

@0A0D: I think so too, given that user profile pages also don't trim it (see the HTML). –  Tom Wijsman Sep 8 '11 at 17:44

@jjinguy: Interesting, perhaps people were able to do it on a certain date or in the initial entry form but no longer able to do it in the current profile editor? In which case it could be a bug where it's not consistent everywhere... –  Tom Wijsman Sep 8 '11 at 17:45

@Tom: Well he just became a member today, last seen 37 mins ago. –  staticx Sep 8 '11 at 17:48

@0A0D: Ah, right; we can still compare the initial entry form against the current profile name edit form. –  Tom Wijsman Sep 8 '11 at 17:50

I don't see how this is an issue. Since you can have the same display name as someone else, it's not like you need this as a workaround. –  quantumSoup Sep 8 '11 at 18:32

This could happen on unregistered users previously. It no longer can in the next build...and we'll trim any existing ones after that goes out.
