Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

The definition of the Sportsmanship badge:

Up voted 100 competing answers

doesn't specify whether each upvote on competing answers to the same question counts towards this criteria, or if it's limited to one "point" per question no matter how many additional competing answers you upvote. Can someone explain how it works?

Why would it apply to only 1 per answer? I'd be very surprised if it did. – Pëkka Sep 9 '11 at 11:07

Follow up question - does it apply if I answer only after upvoting? – Leeor Jan 29 '14 at 19:17
@Leeor It doesn't matter whether you upvote before or after answering, as long as your answer gets a positive score. – Esoteric Screen Name Jan 29 '14 at 20:01
up vote 14 down vote accepted

If the question has 3 answers, including your own, you have up to 2 chances to upvote competing posts. This assumes your answer has a score of at least 1.

Do the answers have to be non-CW? How are Community Wiki posts handled when counting votes on competing answers? – beam022 Nov 8 '12 at 14:42
@beam022 It doesn't say anything in the badge description about CW answers, so I don't know for sure. – jonsca Nov 8 '12 at 15:54

Competing answers are all the answers but yours, given for the same question.
