Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Different areas on a StackExchange websites are too sensitive to mouse-hover. They show some popups or other which is very annoying. Mouse pointer on tag shows a popup, Mouse pointer on the question shows a tooltip. Any given page is filled with tags & questions. It becomes annoying when scrolling the page with the mouse wheel or middle-button automatic scrolling. It becomes hard to decide where to rest the mouse pointer so that no popup windows are shown.

Please improve on this. Reduce the frequency of popups by tweaking the UI.

"Tweak the UI" is about as useful a request as "make it better". I bet that if they just tweak the UI they think is best, you'll still not be happy with it. If you have specific suggestions, make them. Otherwise it's just a rant. – Joachim Sauer Oct 12 '11 at 6:31
I never see popups on questions. Is this browser specific? (I use Firefox). For the rest I think the popups are functional. – Gert Arnold Oct 12 '11 at 7:21
@GertArnold: when I hover over a question title on the main page (and probably all question lists) I get a tooltip with some of the text of the question. – Joachim Sauer Oct 12 '11 at 7:42
Ah I see, it is site specific. Doesn't bother me though. I developed a habit of resting the mouse pointer some at the right and then scroll (which I'm aware of only now). – Gert Arnold Oct 12 '11 at 7:51
@GertArnold It's not site specific; question listings that don't show an excerpt of the question text (like the home page or the user profile) have a tooltip with the excerpt. Question listings that already include the text (like /questions) don't have that. – balpha Oct 12 '11 at 8:26
@balpha You're right! Never noticed that. – Gert Arnold Oct 12 '11 at 8:30
I actually really like pop-ups. They're a great way to get information quickly without interrupting my reading and my train of thought as much as opening a new browser tab or window. – ksoo Aug 31 '13 at 20:30
