This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

No. Marking the answer as accepted is thanks enough. – ChrisF Oct 21 '11 at 14:51
At the end of the day, we're ingrained and we thank each other a lot. It's hard to change that. And sometimes it feels rude not to thank people who do extra. Thank You! – Adel Oct 21 '11 at 15:16
@ChrisF: I have been given a correct answer from others. But how to MARK THE ANSWER AS ACCEPTED? I see no button. Please forgive if this question is rude. – Nguyen Mar 14 '14 at 14:19
@Nguyen do you see the hollow tick/check mark below the answer score? Click that to turn it green. That accepts the answer. – ChrisF Mar 14 '14 at 14:43

No. In fact, because it just noise to the page without adding any information, saying "thanks" is discouraged (though tolerated).

Instead, it's preferred that askers thank answerers by accepting and/or upvoting the answers.

"Thank You". This is the last time i am doing it :) – Mirror51 Oct 21 '11 at 15:03
I would think it would be more reasonable and not so much noise if the poster was to put thanks in the original post at the very bottom. (If they just must say thanks) – MVCylon Oct 21 '11 at 15:13
@DougChamberlain: I prefer the use of comments, because they can be cleaned up later without bumping the post. When I feel really compelled I'll say "Thanks", leave the comment for a couple of hours so the person can see it, then delete it. The sentiment gets across, but there's no cruft left on the page. – Jeremy Banks Oct 21 '11 at 15:19
Do points get rewarded for saying thanks? – Rob Sandie Oct 21 '11 at 15:30
@RobSandie: No. – Jeremy Banks Oct 21 '11 at 15:52
