Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

My understanding is that the notification bar is "above" all of the on-page content, as though it is some sort of digital venetian blind that covers all the page content below it.

However, I recently discovered this:

Improper floating

It appears that the share-a-link box is attempting to escape from the notification bar's oppressive covering. For me, this qualifies as unexpected behavior. Bug or no bug?

Edit: To clarify, if this occurred when I clicked or hovered over a page element, I might expect the box to pop to the top over the bar. However, when the popup already exists on the page and I scroll down, the share-a-link box suddenly overlapping the notification bar looks "weird."

Is that really a problem? – Michael Petrotta Nov 14 '11 at 3:01
@MichaelPetrotta - First it's the share-a-link box, then it's the comment divs, next thing you know the WHOLE PAGE is rising above the notification bar, and BAM... no more notifications because they're all hidden beneath the page content. This is a serious (potentially possible) problem! – Zeke Nov 14 '11 at 3:04
It's "on top" because it's a temporary notification, those always appear on top of page content. The share a link to this question is also a temporary notification. – Ben Brocka Nov 14 '11 at 14:39
What's the link to the Prog.SE question meant to show? Confused, I am :/ – Shawn Chin Nov 14 '11 at 18:41
@Shawn - It's just where I took this screenshot; I don't believe it is specific to that one question. I will remove the link. – Zeke Nov 14 '11 at 18:55
The notification bar's gone, so this should no longer be an issue. – Adam Lear Sep 19 '12 at 14:42
