Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I'd like it if hitting the slash key (/) would go to the search box, like it does in Gmail and Vim.

I could then type my query after doing:

  1. Ctrl + T
  2. www.stackoverflow.com
  3. search query

and mousing to the search box wouldn't break my typing flow.

It's the first tab in Opera to get to the search box. / is the on page find tool. – random Nov 18 '11 at 20:51

As Random pointed out tab does just what I want. Don't know why I didn't think of that...

Did not know you were even using Opera if that was the case – random Nov 18 '11 at 21:31

I use Chrome, but your solution worked the same :) – David Silva Smith Nov 18 '11 at 21:33

It should work in any browser which supports tabindex. – ughoavgfhw Nov 18 '11 at 23:14
