Yes, Stack Overflow pays me a small stipend for downvoting silly questions. Not much, but it covers my coffee budget. –  Michael Petrotta Dec 4 '11 at 17:58

"what are the benefits of Stack Overflow?" Increased skill and knowledge. "Does it pay something?" No. "I want to earn something in terms of money, how can Stack Overflow help me?" By answering and asking questions, you 1) increase your skills as a programmer, 2) expose yourself to new ideas, problems, and techniques, and 3) become a better programmer. This may lead to better career opportunities, which may increase your ability to command a high salary. –  Adam Davis Dec 4 '11 at 18:08

The benefits of SO are that it makes you a better developer (by asking or by answering) and that it makes other developers better too, which should improve your life. Nobody is paid to ask or answer questions. There are some paid employees but they are the ones who write the code that runs the site, administer the servers and so on.

Becoming a better developer will get you money in the long run. If you're looking for shorter-term monetary benefit, look elsewhere.

Stack Overflow isn't about money - it's about sharing your knowledge with others and gaining knowledge from others. See the About Page
