Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Should I be able to cancel my up-vote on a comment?

Can't undo upvote on comments. The comments area understandably has a small interface and I accidentally upvoted the wrong comment. Apparently they cannot be un-upvoted.

It looks like this finally got implemented :) – Ben Voigt Apr 29 '12 at 20:51

Oh, no! Now you'll have to forever bear the shame of having anonymously upvoted a comment, which has little to no impact on anything whatsoever!

Seriously, though, I agree with you. It's not high on my list of complaints (why am I still unable to remove a vote to close), but it's on there somewhere.

I think the remove a vote to close is more important... – Tyler Carter Aug 3 '09 at 14:44
Oh, shoot. I didn't mean to upvote that comment :P – user164291 Sep 18 '11 at 17:42

On a similar note, I wish there was a way to downvote a comment.

If a commenter puts "the best way to access elements in the HTML page is to use document.all" I can't downvote this. I can post a comment pointing out why it is wrong... and hope for upvotes... but the comments were never designed to support a hierarchy... thus later when someone sees the "minified" comments (based on votes) all they see is a rant that has nothing to do with the original question / answer. :-(

I sort of disagree... because it works well enough now, and I wouldn't want to complicate the UI. Bad comments usually get shot down by a follow-up comment with many upvotes. (What you say about the "minified" view is true though...) – Jonik Aug 3 '09 at 14:42
By the way, there's a request about this:…. And another one:… – Jonik Aug 3 '09 at 14:46

Considering that comments up-voting will add only +1 to the score and will not influence on what answer will be selected as a right answer, I suppose there is no need in such functionality. Owners of SO may have another vision, but I, as user of SO, don't see any real value in it.
