Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 153 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

My account has been temporarily suspended, besides the following restrictions:

  • an account will be locked at 1 reputation
  • the user page will have a visual indication that the account is in timed suspension, and for how long
  • the account holder will be unable to vote, ask, answer or comment

What else does timed suspension prevent me doing? For example, can I still edit my own posts or delete content?

Should we start closing existing questions as duplicates e.g. this one or should we wait for this to become full faq first? – Shadow Wizard Mar 12 '12 at 8:21
@ShaDowWizArd - I think we wait and see if this is accepted first. – Kev Mar 12 '12 at 12:59
Fair enough Kev - just curious, who should approve this? One of the devs? – Shadow Wizard Mar 12 '12 at 13:25
@ShaDowWizArd - it's my first time so I have no idea :) – Kev Mar 12 '12 at 13:52

When an account is suspended

  • The account will be locked at 1 reputation.

  • The user page will have a visual indication that the account is in timed suspension. It will also include a brief explanation of why the account was suspended, and for how long.

  • The account holder will be unable to ask, answer, comment, vote, accept an answer, or award a bounty.

  • Migrations from other sites are prohibited and will be blocked.

During the suspension

  • Badges can still be earned and awarded.

At the end of the suspension period

  • Earned rep is re-instated. This may be different from the rep value at the start of the suspension because your posts may have been upvoted, downvoted or deleted during the suspension period, and some of your votes may have been invalidated..

  • A record of the suspension and reason is recorded that can only be viewed by ♦ moderators.

Other considerations

  • The temporary suspension is not related to the quality filter, these operate separately. When the temporary suspension has been lifted you might still be prevented from asking or answering questions by this feature.

If anyone can add to this feel free. – Kev Mar 11 '12 at 13:30
perhaps add a section about network suspensions? I would but I'm not clear on how they work myself :L – Rory Mar 11 '12 at 13:41
Since you mentioned editing and deleting in the question, that should be addressed in the answer as well. (If they're not mentioned, does that mean you can still edit/delete?) – hammar Mar 11 '12 at 13:43
@Rory and hammar - both good points. Will investigate. – Kev Mar 11 '12 at 13:45
Worth to mention that the suspended account can still earn badges. Example however they won't be visible in the public user card. – Shadow Wizard Mar 11 '12 at 14:01
@Kev: How about flagging for moderator attention? Is it forbidden because rep 1 is iron-clad or is it allowed in case the user wishes to contest the suspension? – sarnold Mar 12 '12 at 8:13
Could also make it absoltely clear that the "tempoary ban" is not related to the quality filter - the tempoary ban is automatically lifted while the quality filter needs some work on the users part. – tombull89 Mar 12 '12 at 8:59
