Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

This question , for instance, renders in IE7 as a 1-line high textarea with vertical and horizontal scrollbars. All of the code appears to be on a single line. Works fine in Firefox 3.5.

And it doesn't get syntax highlighting, either. Weird. – mmyers Aug 6 '09 at 21:31
The syntax highlighting doesn't work on chrome running on linux. – Brad Gilbert Aug 6 '09 at 21:50

Weird. Seems to be specific to that code block, as other ones look OK to me in IE8 and IE8 with IE7 mode on.

Probably we won't do anything with this as it appears isolated.

I've seen it happen on several other questions. It seems to be triggered when the code contains very long strings AND HTML tags. – tvanfosson Aug 7 '09 at 23:36
