What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 127 Stack Exchange communities.

(Or maybe the suggested edits interfere with the dupe link, I guess that also works.)

This is something I've seen happening a couple times, such as here.

When an edit is suggested before, and reviewed after the question is closed as a duplicate, the edit will appear to remove the "Possible Duplicate" box that is automatically added by Community.

This happens due to a clashing edit situation that is usually impossible — normal users can't suggest edits while another one is already pending, and those with edit rights are forced to approve or reject it first.

However, Community is highly rude and just performs the edit anyway.

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "The problem described here can no longer be reproduced. Changes to the system or to the circumstances affecting the asker have rendered it obsolete. If you encounter a similar problem, please post a new question." – Anna Lear
If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

Related; apparently closing a question used to dismiss edits, possibly for this reason. –  lunboks Apr 27 '12 at 13:03

It's that rude Community user again! Can we just ban him and get it over with? –  Cody Gray Apr 28 '12 at 7:43

Just noticed this as well. Also when the edit was not accepted yet, but you want to improve it, the duplicate link is removed as well. –  Felix Apr 30 '12 at 11:40

This happened to me. I voted to close from a review queue (I think at this point the question had been flagged but had no close votes) then went back and edited (since editing from the close review would remove it from that queue) and then my edit was not as substantial as the "possible duplicate" that community added because I voted to close. If Community is going to do that, could it be a little quicker? –  Kate Gregory Dec 28 '12 at 15:46

Duplicate links are no longer inserted as edits, so this shouldn't be a problem anymore. –  Anna Lear Oct 4 '13 at 1:48
