I tried adding a Skype button in my StackOverflow profile to show my current status: online/away/offline using the code provided by Skype: http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/tell-a-friend/wizard/

The button works as expected showing my status, but if someone tries to click it, the Skype app won't open because this URL:

is translated to:

With the above link, this window won't appear:

enter image description here

I also think that the URL should not have the http part. It should only be

but this is not possible as of today.

Would this be acceptable or even possible in the future? If there's security concerns, no problem... I'll just close this question. :)

I came that close to flagging this as off topic. Well done sir. :) – Mysticial May 3 '12 at 16:01
@Mysticial Is letting the other users on MSO think the question is off-topic a new trend? Is there a badge for that? ;) – kiamlaluno May 3 '12 at 16:04
@kiam is there a badge for that -- do you really want another fake badge from me? – Manishearth May 3 '12 at 16:10
@Manishearth Ehmmm… I didn't ask the question; I would not get the badge. As you say, "another fake badge," which one is that other fake badge? :) – kiamlaluno May 3 '12 at 16:16
@kiam quite a few. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/116735/… Also, a deleted post has a whole bunch (search Is there a badge for scoring my own birthyear?). I was bored, and I knew jQuery. So I made some badges :) – Manishearth May 3 '12 at 16:21
Ok....how is this on topic? – John May 3 '12 at 17:24
@John it's about Stack Exchange profiles messing with (unusually formatted) user-entered URIs. – Pops May 3 '12 at 17:32
Ah I see. Thanks, @Pop. – John May 3 '12 at 18:59
