Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I was recently buying stuff from the Stack Exchange shop, and I was looking for something that I was very surprised they didn't have.

Black Stack Overflow Hat White Stack Overflow Hat

White Stack Exchange Hat Black Stack Exchange Hat

Or something a little more intricate:

I have seen even fairly small companies make hats. Usually, they are the first things that end up in companies shops, and I would have thought Stack Exchange would have already had them. I know if they sold them, at least I would buy one! (or 6)

I think Stack Exchange should start making them!

Does anyone else agree with me?

What about the SE team? What do you think about the idea?

I would totally buy a hat if they started selling them!! – Figitaki May 6 '12 at 2:08
Nerds' hair are already messed up enough without the need for hats. – animuson May 6 '12 at 2:19
Maybe StackOverflow doesn't have hats... but then, maybe SO just isn't good enough for hats. – LessPop_MoreFizz May 6 '12 at 3:06
Hats are awesome. I'd be all over hats. Or they'd be all over me. On my head. – Adam Lear May 6 '12 at 3:11
We need a hat that looks like a cat – Lorem Ipsum May 6 '12 at 3:16
This is a great idea. PayPal is too. They would go very well together, because then I would go buy a matching hoodie, pants and hat. And jacket. – Ryan O'Hara May 6 '12 at 4:25
@yoda Reddit is >> that way >>. – Jin May 6 '12 at 5:15
Ugh, those are fugly. Better just to go with the site logo without text. – Won't May 6 '12 at 20:42
@Won't - I didn't do the white ones very well, but I though this one looked ok...? – Ephraim May 6 '12 at 20:47
@Ephraim: Eh. To me, words on hat = suck. Jin's idea (tho not the style) is better. The only word that should appear on a SO hat is [closed] – Won't May 6 '12 at 20:58
The problem with hats is that “one size fits all” hats don't fit me. Too much boneheadedness I suspect… – Donal Fellows May 7 '12 at 10:11
I have a hat - :P – ChrisF May 10 '12 at 16:23
@ChrisF - Nice! do they give hats to moderators or something? – Ephraim May 10 '12 at 16:25
@Ephraim - it was in the top user swag pack for DIY. – ChrisF May 10 '12 at 16:28
There needs to be StackOverflow branded fedoras/tribys, I'd so buy those. – Rocket Hazmat May 23 '12 at 20:35

Stack Overflow Top Hat

^ The only hat I'd consider making... (with optional monocle)

On a more serious note, we don't have any plans for hats.

Oh c'mon, now that you've gone and tempted us! If not hats, what about visors with affixed unicorn horns? – Tim Stone May 6 '12 at 4:43
Wow, That's awesome! That is what you should sell in the shop!! Now I want one!!! Or twelve!!!!! Yes, I'll take twelve!!!! :D – Ephraim May 6 '12 at 4:45
@TimStone like this?. no. – Jin May 6 '12 at 4:53
@Jin - does Stack Exchange have any plans for changing their mind about getting hats?... (ps, I want one of those too!!!) – Ephraim May 6 '12 at 5:03
but more seriously, can I ask why you guys decided not to? – Ephraim May 6 '12 at 5:21
You needed to have a model for this hat. – Jarrod Dixon May 6 '12 at 5:26
hahaha, I meant why did you guys decide not to do baseball style hats ? – Ephraim May 6 '12 at 5:30
Wow, how did you get a baby picture of Winston Churchill? – Cody Gray May 6 '12 at 8:25
Guess I'll just go back to my hat simulator and my virtual hat... – BoltClock's a Unicorn May 6 '12 at 15:52
+1 is for the awesome image, not the lack of hat love :( – shanethehat May 6 '12 at 16:34
The hat image made me want to create about a dozen sock puppet accounts and earn them some rep to up vote this. But then I saw "no plans" to add hats, and wanted to create about 11 sock puppet accounts and earn them some rep to down vote! So that leaves us with a net of one up vote. ;) – Andrew Barber May 6 '12 at 16:53
Jin is a hibster! – Blem May 7 '12 at 2:28
Just ordered one for my cat, thank you! – systempuntoout May 8 '12 at 22:31

Only if we can have a hard hat, too.

'vote to close' Stack Overflow hard hat

Now I know exactly what I want for Christmas. – Andrew Barber May 9 '12 at 3:08
This is already standard issue for moderators of beta sites. – Cody Gray May 9 '12 at 4:14

We now have hats.

I dunno...wearing a top hat with the Stack Overflow logo on it gets looks. This gets _over_looked. Point taken, though. – Makoto Dec 19 '12 at 1:31
