I'm on Chrome 18 on Windows XP.

No repro here: Chrome 18 on Windows Server 2008 R2. (Windows XP?!) –  Cody Gray May 7 '12 at 9:54
Possibly related: Buttons and Preview gone? –  Cody Gray May 7 '12 at 9:55
Maybe it's a problem with my company firewall and proxy. I will try another network –  Garcia Julien May 7 '12 at 9:59
So, it's a problem from the proxy, that blocked some request. I'm on another network now and it's working Thank you –  Garcia Julien May 7 '12 at 10:04
Sounds like wmd.js being blocked, possibly a downstream consumer of a false positive related to this: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/131172/… ...would have to be fixed/updated on your company's end though. –  Nick Craver May 7 '12 at 10:10
@Nick just today I had the same issue. To test out a userscript, I updated my firefox to the latext version. The bar was gone, even with the userscript disables. It had an empty .wmd-button-bar. But it worked for another guy, so I'll do some rooting around before I post it as a bug report. It works on Chrome though, so its something FF-side. –  Manishearth May 7 '12 at 11:05
