What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 128 Stack Exchange communities.

I have a StackOverflow account (obviously).

I recently got an invite to join careers.stackoverflow.com.

Since I already have a StackOverflow account, I figured I could log in with it. Not the case.

I wanted to ask a question about this on Meta, but couldn't, because I do not have an account there, either.

I don't want to create a 'duplicate' account for each of these sites.

What am I missing?

This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.

You have a separate account on each site. They can be linked, but you don't have to. There is no single, monolithic account, however. –  Andrew's a Unitato May 15 '12 at 17:03

supposedly you can merge accounts. it's annoying how this must work. now my rep isn't carried over, grr. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/18232/… –  JoeBrockhaus May 15 '12 at 20:08

Merging accounts is for multiple accounts on the same site, not across sites. reputation is not carried over beyond the 100 point bonus. –  Andrew's a Unitato May 15 '12 at 20:56

@JoeBrockhaus Re: your flag... Meta Stack Overflow accounts don't inherit reputation from your Stack Overflow account. Are you still having issues signing in anywhere? If you were able to add additional logins to your profile, it sounds like you should be good to go... –  Anna Lear May 16 '12 at 5:27
