There are currently four tags related to multidimensional arrays, lists, hashes, etc.

All these tags are related and should be merged into . The tag has the most questions (3367) and has an excerpt.

Maybe we should merge all these tags into ? That way it is clearer that lists, hashes, etc. are included in . And as Some Helpful Commenter pointed out, the term multidimensional also applies to databases.

Multidimensional can refer to databases. E.g. this question

Seriously. Can we get this done?

@SomeHelpfulCommenter Maybe we should merge them all into multi-dimensional then? –  Bryan Dunsmore Jun 4 '12 at 14:05

There's a conflict between those that want to see tags collapsed into fewer, more general tags (like you do here), and those who want people to use more specific, less ambiguous tags... The tag wiki for multidimensional says "Please don't use this as a meta-tag. Use multidimensional-array or hash-of-hashes instead!" You'll have to resolve that conflict first, before we do any merging. –  Robert Harvey Jun 6 '12 at 21:37

@RobertHarvey So if we just edited the tag wiki, would that resolve the conflict? –  Bryan Dunsmore Jun 6 '12 at 21:43

That would certainly paper over it. But, based on that tag wiki, it seems that one or more people would rather have more specific tags like [multidimensional-array] and [multidimensional-database], instead of the tag combinations of [multidimensional] [array] and [multidimensional] [database]. This wouldn't be the first time such a preference has been stated, either. –  Robert Harvey Jun 6 '12 at 21:56

Well I can guarantee you at least five people want all these tags merged into multidimensional. –  Bryan Dunsmore Jun 6 '12 at 22:02

We have multidimensional and multi-dimensional?? –  Donal Fellows Jun 6 '12 at 22:25

@DonalFellows Si. –  Bryan Dunsmore Jun 6 '12 at 22:29

@DonalFellows, such shenanigans are the reason why non-moderators are no longer able to create tags that differ in spelling only by hyphenation. –  Charles Jun 6 '12 at 22:37
