What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 130 Stack Exchange communities.

Stack Overflow continues to grow...

When the November 2011 Election began, there were 72K members eligible to vote; today, there are over 97K. One of the most direct indications of a need for more moderators is flags per day, which has increased from 890 to over 1300.

So it's time to take the phone off the hook, put the "No Campaigners!" sign on the front lawn, and dive into The June 2012 Stack Overflow Community Moderator Election!

Community moderator elections have three phases:

  1. Nomination phase
  2. Primary phase
  3. Election phase

Elections generally last three weeks, one week per phase. Visit

...for details and to participate.

If you have general questions about the election process, or questions for moderator candidates, feel free to ask them here on meta -- just make sure your questions are tagged .

If you want to talk about the election, the candidates, the process, or waffles (as they relate to elections), drop into the Stack Overflow Election Chatroom.

The Spring 2012 Stack Overflow Community Moderator Election? Isn't it June already? –  Yannis Jun 4 '12 at 20:01

Summer Solstice is June 20th this year... –  Shog9 Jun 4 '12 at 20:02

@shog9 And how's midsummer relevant? Is this yet another US specific reference that makes absolutely no sense in the rest of the world? –  Yannis Jun 4 '12 at 20:03

According to /review, this is Community♦'s first question... –  Jim Jun 4 '12 at 20:07

Makes a ton of sense in those parts of the world where "summer" is mostly just shorthand for "July and August". In Australia, it probably makes no sense at all. But then, Australia is known for not making sense. –  Shog9 Jun 4 '12 at 20:12

@Shog9 Isn't summer three months (as are all the seasons)? –  casperOne Jun 4 '12 at 20:20

@YannisRizos I'm in Germany, and over here, midsummer is the start of summer as well. It's not US specific. –  balpha Jun 4 '12 at 20:33

@balpha You consider Sonnenwende the start of the summer? Well, I guess it makes some sense for Germany, but in Greece it's been 30C+ since late April. Obviously "start of the summer" is regional, it's winter in the Antipodes right now... –  Yannis Jun 4 '12 at 20:38

@YannisRizos I thought that was because Athens is burning... literally. –  Lorem Ipsum Jun 4 '12 at 20:38

@yoda Don't go there, especially when I'm conversing with a German. –  Yannis Jun 4 '12 at 20:39

@YannisRizos If you ask the meteorologists, the German ones will tell you summer begins on 1st of June. The calendar makers however, think differently. –  Daniel Fischer Jun 4 '12 at 20:39

Wait, someone doesn't think the start of summer begins on the same day I do? Duty calls. –  user149432 Jun 4 '12 at 20:52
