Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I was searching on the Google Play store (Japanese version) for a Stack Overflow client and I found Stack Overflow by Pile Studios. The website for the app claims

Note: We take no credit whatsoever for the website Stack Overflow itself

But I'm confused about how they can make such a claim but use the Stack Overflow name and logo.

Is this application legitimate? Can applications freely use the Stack Overflow name and logo?

This question came from our site for apps, scripts, and development with the Stack Exchange API.

Good find! That is pretty definitely an infringement of SE, Inc.'s copyright. – Pëkka Jun 8 '12 at 19:14
Part of your question is answered at What are the rules on using the Stack Overflow logo? – Pops Jun 8 '12 at 19:39
I think it's mainly a trademark violation. Using the logo is probably also a copyright violation, but that's only secondary. – CodesInChaos Jun 8 '12 at 19:56
