Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I would really like to connect to the javascript chat room with the ubuntu chat client which supports irc, jabber, aim, msn, and every other protocol under the sun.

How are the stackoverflow chat rooms implemented? Is it possible to connect to them with an external client?

Sounds like it is possible but you have to run a bridge yourself (and also maybe the bridge is currently broken?). Thanks for the answer. – George Mauer Jan 27 '14 at 17:11
