Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Commenters can break the page layout by posting a long, unbroken string. Feels like the 1990s on Slashdot again!

Sorry, I deleted the comment that broke the layout of the linked page before I came here and found your bug report. Shouldn't be hard for the team to reproduce, though. – Bill the Lizard Aug 12 '09 at 14:12

Reported to the mods. Users should know better.

Would be nice if the system truncated or wrapped these nonsense comments though.

Most commenting systems I've experienced have already encountered the attack (either deliberate or unintentional) and dealt with it. Someone who wasn't around for the early days of Slashdot trolling might never have actually seen it succeed. – ceejayoz Aug 12 '09 at 16:35
