Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

When you link this closed proposal in chat you get this onebox:

1 Italian arts and stuff

Proposed Q&A site for surfer dudes that like to think and stuff

Currently in definition.

The onebox offers no hint that the proposal is closed. Could one be added pretty please?

NO! Oh, you said "please". Okay. – balpha Aug 10 '12 at 12:09
There is no hint that the proposal is closed Description not enough for you? ;P – Yannis Aug 10 '12 at 12:10
It has "[closed]" added to the name of the proposal itself. Or was that not there at the time you posted the question? – S.L. Barth Aug 10 '12 at 12:16
@YannisRizos Where is it in the onebox? – badp Aug 10 '12 at 12:36
@badp Heh, it was a joke, what I meant was that a proposal with a description "for surfer dudes that like to think and stuff" is bound to be closed... – Yannis Aug 10 '12 at 12:38
@YannisRizos It might not be closed yet, however, and require a flag/close vote. – badp Aug 10 '12 at 12:42
@badp I know, I know, it was a joke! ;) I'm your single up vote, don't make me regret it ;P <-- also a joke... – Yannis Aug 10 '12 at 12:43

Proposals that were closed after they had been launched (the so-called "failed proposals") were already handled correctly. Now this is also the case for those that were closed even before that:

screenshot of two oneboxes of closed proposals; one before, one after launch.
