Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

If you clear your cookies (logging you off of the site) after the banner "X new answers to this question" appears, a blank error messages comes back when you try to vote on an answer.

It appears that the answers load properly, but when you try to vote on them, you get this:

enter image description here

To reproduce:

  1. View any question, wait for an answer to be submitted to get the new answer banner to load.
  2. Remove your cookies for the site you're viewing (can be easily done in FF by clearing your history).
  3. Load the new answers by clicking on the banner.
  4. Try to vote on one of those new answers.

#2 is not normal user behaviour, and although I agree this is a bug, I think fixing it should be extremely low priority... – Yannis Aug 27 '12 at 16:41
@Yannis - Clearing your history (at least in FF) clears cookies by default, while a question with new answers can be open in another tab. Saying it's not normal user behavior is a bit extreme (IMO). – nickb Aug 27 '12 at 16:43
That's a more likely scenario, but still an edge case imho. Anyway, it's a bug, and every bug is worth investigating. – Yannis Aug 27 '12 at 16:46
