In doing some research I noticed that the SO tag is overloaded with several meanings:

  • Amazon Elastic Beanstalk, an infrastructure automation tool
  • Beanstalkd, a job queue
  • Beanstalkapp.com, hosted source control

I'm not sure I have the reputation much less time to fix this, even if I knew what to do. But I have some ideas.

Each technology should have its own tag. is an actively used tag. doesn't seem to be a tag. The plain tag has an amazon logo -- maybe it should be renamed ?

Moreover, I'd say it should not be used as a bare word without being more explicit. Is it possible to have a negative synonym that prevents its use and forces disambiguation?

From the tag wiki: This tag is for Amazon Elastic Beanstalk, and should not be confused with beanstalkapp.com which is a git/mercurial hosting app. –  animuson Sep 7 '12 at 1:11

Agreed that it "should" not be confused. But it is. People rarely go to the tag wiki when writing questions. –  Leopd Sep 7 '12 at 1:13

Searching for [beanstalk] beanstalkapp only yields two results... –  animuson Sep 7 '12 at 1:16

I think disambiguating is a good idea. Just a couple of suggestions/points:

For the purposes of any retag effort and demonstrating there's a name collision involving Beanstalk (the managed source control product), here are the questions tagged that refer to it:

Generally, it looks like ( | | ) + gets most of them, but there are a few that don't have a VCS tag.
