Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 150 Stack Exchange communities.

Looking at all the Stack Overflow architecture details posts, I understand SO is built with asp.net mvc 3 framework. If so, please could someone explain me how the URLs relate to the asp.net views?

For example: this url [http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4610101/source-control-bitbucket-and-assembla]

What is "source-control-bitbucket-and-assembla" part in the url? Is it one of the parameter to the controller method?

It's the title of the question... – animuson Sep 8 '12 at 6:31
The name part in the URL is for SEO purposes only; the actual lookup is done using the numeric ID. However, the name part is checked as well and a header redirect performed if it doesn't match the current name – Pëkka Sep 8 '12 at 6:32
...and the URL of this very question would be so much better if its title was more meaningful! – Arjan Sep 8 '12 at 7:38
