Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

The tag on Stack Overflow seems to be misnamed: it's not about gaming as in playing games with code (happens), but about writing games. That's not "gaming", that's "game development."

I suggest the tag is renamed to "game-dev" to match its usage.

Full disclosure. As part of Arqade's efforts to share our expertise where needed in the network and to block bad question migration before it happens, we have a feed watching questions tagged (and variations thereof) wherever in the network; this includes Stack Overflow, which is the only site that uses the tag to mean game development. This is annoying.

Why can't I now put tags in titles? :/ – badp Sep 30 '12 at 10:37
You should be able to, the title just can't be ^\[\<tagchars>+\] to avoid the typical "[omgoshtag]: fix problemz plz" usage. – Tim Stone Sep 30 '12 at 10:41
@TimStone But that kills the purity of the title! – badp Sep 30 '12 at 10:42

Isn't game-development tag burninated before: – nhahtdh Sep 30 '12 at 11:01
@nhahtdh That means gaming should go as well. I'm okay with that too. – badp Sep 30 '12 at 11:17
If anything it should be renamed to [game-development], not [game-dev]. – sth Sep 30 '12 at 15:37
