Expand the username auto-completion to everyone who can be notified

I've noticed this a couple of times, but am still not sure about it.

Let's say I've edited a post. Does that mean that when someone mentions @MadaraUchiha on the comments I would be notified?

I'm asking because on two recent edits on my answers, the editors replied very quickly when I @highlighted them.

Editors of any post can be @notified in the comments. But when I start typing their names, no autocomplete popup is... popped-up.

Could editors of a post be added to the autocomplete popup for @notifying?

This question was marked as an exact duplicate of an existing question.

Still duplicate (of a different post) even after the edit. – Shadow Wizard Oct 28 '12 at 13:30
Yeah I keep wondering the same thing. I'll @mention the exact text from the post and no popup. Maybe notifications are discouraged but is having the username be link-able to their profile also discouraged? For example if I add the following text to this post: @madara-uchiha you will notice it renders like this: @madara-uchiha Obviously something is wacky and little understanding why some users are special. – Sukima Mar 24 at 18:15
