Given that I find Meta to be a very hostile site, I want to delete my account here, but I want to keep my Stack Overflow account. How can I do this?
What is meta?
- Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
- The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
- Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates
First, an account is never really purged, it is denormalized. The following spaghettification takes place once your request is processed:
To initiate the process, fill out this form. Note, the fields automatically default to your meta profile, only your meta account will be affected. We do require that you provide a short explanation of why you wish to denormalize your account, and that you change the contents of your profile description to:
Your request will then be forwarded to our community team for processing. Moderators do have the ability to do this as well (provided that your account does not have a lot of reputation), but we really prefer that you go through the official channel.
If, however you do not see action or receive a response from the community team within a reasonable amount of time (a few days is a good start for reasonable), you can flag one of your posts as 'other' and request that a community mod follow up on, or grant your request.
Still, I encourage you to put some thought into it if you have not done so already. Meta is our official support and bug channel. While you are always welcome to make a new account if you find the need to use meta in the future, it's preferable if you just keep the one you have - no matter how battle scarred and charred it may be. Believe it or not, Meta is a lot less strange than it used to be.
