What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 127 Stack Exchange communities.

I see there are plenty of people posting external URLs in chats can we have more control like moderators. So if the user is frequent and has certain reputation he/she can delete posts on the chat so all is controlled and not flooded.

Note: the link I posted in the comments is completely irrelevant I was fooled by the title. Sorry about that. But I hope you get the point.

I'm not sure I see the point. Can you point to a chat room where excessive posting is a problem? –  Pëkka Nov 9 '12 at 22:12

Check last message: chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/rooms/89/tavern-on-the-meta if regular and serious users have more control they can delete spam messages –  infinity Nov 9 '12 at 22:16

You mean Tim Post's link? I'm not sure what your point is? –  Pëkka Nov 9 '12 at 22:17

That's not spam, infinity. I understand, it kinda looks like spam, but it's not. Tim's just pointing out something amusing and related to the conversation (Hurricane Sandy). Can you point out other examples? –  Michael Petrotta Nov 9 '12 at 22:23

While I disagree with the specific example you brought up, I am generally in favour of granting more privileges to room owners and 10k users (chat). Perhaps something like three 10k users or room owner + one 10k user or two room owners can delete a message? That might be a good starting point and it'll keep the silly and annoying flags down and will allow more community moderation on SO (where the mods cannot respond to flags). I wouldn't support unilateral delete rights by room owners or 10k users. –  Lorem Ipsum Nov 9 '12 at 22:38

@yoda you're right my example was totally wrong I just checked the website and saw it's for good cause. (Got fooled by buy Ferrari for charity title) but yeah imagine you have person that is spamming the chat people that use it regularly should be able to moderate it. –  infinity Nov 10 '12 at 0:08
