Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I keep accidentally posting partially completed comments. This has happened in the past and more recently, I'm still not sure what's causing it.

I will enter a comment to a post, scroll up to reread the post and make sure I've said all I want to then scroll down to finalize the comment. By the time I scroll back down the comment has already been posted and I need to edit it.

Why does this happen? Does it happen to anyone else? Is it a bug or by design?

One way to reproduce:

  1. Start new comment
  2. Type something
  3. Activate Launchy or Gnome Do (Alt+Enter, or other shortcut)
  4. Launch application by typing it's name and hitting Enter.

If you aren't accidentally hitting "Enter," it's a bug. What browser are you using? – NullUserException อ_อ Nov 13 '12 at 16:36
@NullUserExceptionอ_อ Firefox 16 on Linux – Annan Nov 13 '12 at 16:37
I'm using FF 16 on Windows and I don't have any issues. – Ren Nov 13 '12 at 16:56
How do you scroll up? I mean, mouse wheel, click on the scroll bar, trackpad? – Mr Lister Nov 13 '12 at 17:30
@MrLister Normally with the mouse wheel though I do use Page Up/Down. – Annan Nov 13 '12 at 17:38
@Ren Since you posted your comment I've been unsuccessfully trying to reproduce accidentally posting a comment. I have no idea what causes it sometimes but not other times. – Annan Nov 13 '12 at 17:39
As a heavy FF user (albeit on OS X) I've never seen this. – Martijn Pieters Nov 13 '12 at 18:33
Okay, I finally figured it out! It posts a comment when I use Launchy or Gnome Do to open an application if I'm editing a comment at the same time. – Annan Nov 30 '12 at 16:34
Talk about a corner case.... – mikeTheLiar Nov 30 '12 at 16:44
