Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

This was closed, but I think it is more useful than having to scroll down to the bottom of the glossary page to get the answer one is looking for... especially in, for example, Google search results – Baumr Nov 29 '12 at 20:42

I had this question myself:

As detailed on the official blog, the Stack Overflow trilogy includes the first three projects:

  1. for programmers
  2. for sys admins and support specialists
  3. for computer enthusiasts and power usrs

Their successes spawned the implementation of the network with the multitude of Q&A websites you see today.

Trilogy is also mentioned in the Stack Exchange Glossary. – Robert Harvey Nov 28 '12 at 16:28
@RobertHarvey, thanks - good suggestion. – Baumr Nov 29 '12 at 20:41
Better to say the success of SO spawned the network. ServerFault is about 1.5% of the size and 1% of the activity of SO. Most of that is just spillover from SO. – Hack-R Jul 13 at 23:31
