Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 122 Stack Exchange communities.

I'd like to know how many moderators are there on Stack Overflow?

  • Are they available 24 x 7?
  • May I know the moderators names (if possible)?

Most of the mods names are their user names on the SO sites. –  jjnguy Aug 20 '09 at 16:26

Although they don't have scheduled hours, the mods are very active and you can usually get a response from one of them fairly quickly if you flag something. –  jjnguy Aug 20 '09 at 16:27

Anyone with a ♦ next to their name in the Users page is a moderator for that site. –  squillman Aug 20 '09 at 16:27

There is also a global moderator list available on Stack Exchange here. This lists each of the moderators per site globally.

Additional note: Stack Exchange employees all have the ability to moderate sites, and can choose if they have diamonds next to their names, however they are not listed as moderators on the about pages or on the moderator list, however are displayed in the team list here

The diamond moderators list is available on the About Page of every site. A complete list is available on the Meta Users Page.

Alternatively you can e-mail them on team@stackoverflow.com or you can post a question here and one of the moderators here will try and assist.

Excluding Jeff and the development team there are currently (February 2010) 4 SO moderators, 3 SF moderators, 4 SU moderators (all of which can moderate Meta) and 4 Meta-only moderators.

User above 3K and 10K reputation on every site are also considered moderators. They have the ability to close questions, view flags and view deleted posts (10K). They do not have access to user information.

@sagar: As Diago mentions, the Meta about page has a complete list: meta.stackoverflow.com/about –  Kyle Cronin Aug 20 '09 at 17:16

Thanks for the edit Kyle - I was getting myself confused :) –  Diago Aug 20 '09 at 17:57

The list on the About page hasn't been updated with the two new SO mods - who's names can be found on the blog - blog.stackoverflow.com/2010/02/… –  ChrisF Feb 19 '10 at 22:55

@ChrisF Yeah - Jeff has been extra slow with this lately. I had to remind him a few times to update Ivo and Troggy as well :( –  Diago Feb 19 '10 at 22:58

@Diago: Jeff Atwood is a moderator but he isn't listed there. –  Mechanical snail Feb 15 '13 at 11:50

@Mechanicalsnail Jeff is one of the founders of SE and an ex-employee. As far as I know employees do not get listed as moderators as they have the option to be diamonds or not. They are not officially considered part of the site moderation team, as they have rights network wide. –  Diago Feb 15 '13 at 11:59

@Diago: Is there a list of network-wide moderators then? Obviously not all employees have moderation rights. –  Mechanical snail Feb 15 '13 at 12:00

@Mechanicalsnail All employees do, they can choose if it is visible with a diamond or not, and you can only be a network wide moderator if you are an employee. The term network moderator actually refers to an employee. –  Diago Feb 15 '13 at 12:11

You can find the moderators on each site's user's page on their own tab:

http://stackoverflow.com/users?tab=moderators

http://serverfault.com/users?tab=moderators

http://superuser.com/users?tab=moderators

Also, all of the moderators at the above sites are moderators here at meta:

http://meta.stackoverflow.com/users?tab=moderators
