What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 134 Stack Exchange communities.

Currently on Stack Overflow there are two similar tags:

  • (2280)

Questions about views, a database construct that allows a user to join several tables together or restrict access to certain data.

  • (112)

A database view is a stored query. Its output automatically updates as underlying table data changes.

One is more popular, another is more accurate and expressive. I think only one should remain.

"views" is also a term used by certain application platforms to mean "templates." A blind merge of the two tags would be troublesome. –  Charles Dec 5 '12 at 0:12

@Charles: But its wiki entry covers only one (from many) meanings. What endorses that currently this tag is ambiguous and should be reworked. –  abatishchev Dec 5 '12 at 0:32

It is not uncommon for ambiguous tags to be co-opted by tag wiki editors for their own particular brand of whatever the tag is. If the tag is to be synonymized, we first need to remove the tag from those questions for which it does not pertain. –  Robert Harvey Dec 5 '12 at 1:04
