Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

As per the answer to my previous question:

Request tag synonyms Awk and Gawk

It would seem that Awk and Gawk are different, but the definition for Gawk simply implies it is the same. Can someone who would know better than me please update the description for Gawk?

The definition for GAWK says that it is the Gnu version of AWK with manifold extensions. Is that inaccurate? – Robert Harvey Dec 5 '12 at 22:05
It actually didn't say that until maybe 5-10 minutes ago. I think someone updated it while I was writing this. – Chris Dec 5 '12 at 22:09
Alrighty then... – Robert Harvey Dec 5 '12 at 22:11
Yeah, I added the "with manifold extensions" bit after Chris' first question. In principle I should go into the body and list the most important ones, but I'm too lazy just now. – dmckee Dec 6 '12 at 0:19
