Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I was unable to login to with my usual set of credentials, and the password recovery mechanism stated that my email didn't have an associated account. I found this odd, but decided to simply create a new stackexchange account and start posting again from there until I could find out what was wrong with my original account.

To my surprise when I tried to edit and then save my new account I got the following error at the bottom of the page:

Oops! There was a problem updating your profile:

What's going on here? Has anyone else run into this?

You had an older account with a different set of credentials, but the same email.

I merged them, so you should be good to go now.
