Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

It says that the requirement is:

post or vote on December 16

Don't the hats start tomorrow? Or have I just not noticed the "Winter Bash" in the header for the last 2 days?

Some hats require a time machine. status-bydesign. – Kevin Montrose Dec 19 '12 at 0:57

Nope, hats started about an hour ago!

We wanted to celebrate Hannukah, but we couldn't make the deadlines work, so we opted to award the hat retroactively. That's basically the whole story!

Oh! One more piece: This is the only hat that will be awarded like this. – Aarthi Dec 19 '12 at 1:18
Odd. I did not receive one for SO even though I KNOW I voted on that day! – Austin Henley Dec 19 '12 at 3:00
@AustinHenley Did you indicate that you love hats on SO? – Aarthi Dec 19 '12 at 3:04
Sorry, it was slow to show for SO for some reason :D – Austin Henley Dec 19 '12 at 3:06
Yay! I both lit candles on the day and voted! – Oded Dec 19 '12 at 13:06
But why December 16th? What's so special about that day? – Shadow Wizard Dec 19 '12 at 13:12 – Toon Krijthe Dec 19 '12 at 13:13
@ShaWizDowArd - You should know... last day of Hanukkah. – Oded Dec 19 '12 at 13:15
@Oded last candle was lit on Saturday evening, so I assumed this was the end of Hanukkah. Oh well! – Shadow Wizard Dec 19 '12 at 13:35
Last candle was lit on Saturday night the 15th, which is the beginning of the day that continued through Dec 16 (sundown). Dec 16 is the best way to line that up on the secular calendar (especially with Dec 15 being Shabbat :-) ). @Aarthi, the L'chaim badge was a pleasant surprise -- thanks! – Monica Cellio Dec 19 '12 at 15:24
@MonicaCellio Hooray! :) -- For those unaware, Monica is a moderator on our Mi Yodeya site. If anyone knows, it's her! – Aarthi Dec 19 '12 at 15:26
