Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Sites other than Stack Overflow are currently re-electing new sets of Community Adverts (for example electronics or scifi) , but on Meta Stack Overflow, I can only find the Open Source Advertising - Sidebar posts in the tag.

Is Open Source Advertising available on Stack Overflow instead of Community Adverts, or is Stack Overflow open to both?

Not a clue, but a lack of optional advertising on SO may be related to the size, i.e. it's possible to make more money from advertising on SO than other sites... – ben is uǝq backwards Jan 9 '13 at 13:46
To the point made by @ben, Stack Overflow actually has paid advertising available for it. None of the Stack Exchange 2.0 sites have that, though. – Grace Note Jan 9 '13 at 15:32

Stack Overflow only gets the Open Source Advertising threads. The new session for the first half of 2013 will be up shortly.

It does not receive the same style of Community Promotion Ads that the rest of the network receives - these were, in fact, created as an analog to Stack Overflow's Open Source Advertising.

Thanks, that's good to know. – Mark Booth Jan 9 '13 at 15:30
