Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

If you go here:, there are people who are working on sales or product manager.

What do they do?

There's an old saying: if the service is free to you, you're not the customer, you're the product – EnergyNumbers Jan 13 '13 at 9:10

They sell ad placement, job postings on careers 2.0, and Stack Exchange software to large businesses.

Ad placements? I have never seen an ad here on SE sites. – user208063 Jan 13 '13 at 4:24
@socr19991293 They are usually ads for other SE sites. If you have low rep, you will have more/bigger ads on the page. But yes, I see Careers 2.0 ads every single day. – Austin Henley Jan 13 '13 at 4:48
There are also sponsored tags. – Shadow Wizard Jan 13 '13 at 7:31
@ShaWizDowArd Which ones ? o.O – AsheeshR Jan 13 '13 at 13:57
@AshRj contains all the information, there is currently no list though. Example for very popular sponsored tag: android as you see, there is list of sponsored links. – Shadow Wizard Jan 13 '13 at 14:03
@ShaWizDowArd Nice. Do you know who suggested/thought-of it ? – AsheeshR Jan 13 '13 at 14:07
@AshRj looks like it exists from the very beginning of Stack Overflow, or early after. Who thought of it? Most likely either Jeff or Joel. – Shadow Wizard Jan 13 '13 at 14:21
