Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I have read numerous questions (and answers) about logging into the chat site, but nothing seems to work. I have logged out, back in, checked my settings (everything is green/ok), used three different browsers (including one on a VM, completely clean install), cleared cache, etc, etc.

I log into stackoverflow using my Google ID (works fine), and click over to - I am not auto-logged in. I click on "login", choose Google as my login option, the browser redirects, but I am still not logged in. However, I can go to and log in just fine using my Google ID.

I'm stuck at this point, not sure what else I can try. Any help?

You had two accounts. They're merged now; can you try again? – balpha Jan 22 '13 at 18:39
Fixed it... I did not realize I had two accounts, thanks for the merge! Anything I need to do about that? – jakerella Jan 22 '13 at 18:41
Nope; the merge happened automatically on Stack Overflow, but the corresponding merge in chat is only half-automatic (it has to be manually confirmed). so there was a discrepancy between chat and the main site, and hence chat refused to log you in. We're working on having this happen automatically in chat as well, but we're not there yet -- so I had to jump in :) Sorry about that. – balpha Jan 22 '13 at 18:47
