Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

When I try to add a GitHub repository on Careers ( for the "Open Source" section of my profile, it adds a broken item to the "Apps & Software" section instead.

I am using Firefox 18.0.2. These are the steps I follow:

Click on the GitHub icon under "Open Source":

enter image description here

Click "add" for the repository I want:

enter image description here

Return to the profile and voilà:

enter image description here

It is in the wrong place ("Apps & Sofware" instead of "Open Source") and it imported no data.

Confirmed - thanks! We're looking into this and will provide an update shortly. – Max Feb 25 '13 at 15:05
I love that with all this computing knowledge we still haven't developed an app that easily allows people to write a caption on an image and instead we must resort to scrawling with a software pen!! – Toby Allen Feb 25 '13 at 22:05
@Toby Allen - It's a meta meme. – ire_and_curses Feb 25 '13 at 22:18

Fixed! GitHub projects should now get imported correctly again.

Hmm, now the data does get imported, but the projects still end up in the wrong place ("Apps & Software" instead of "Open Source"). – R. Martinho Fernandes Feb 25 '13 at 20:50
BitBucket repos get imported to the right place. It's only GitHub repos that go in the wrong place. – R. Martinho Fernandes Feb 25 '13 at 21:04
You're right. The GitHub import now pulls all the data, but doesn't put the "Open Source" sticker on your project as it should. Investigating this further... – Max Feb 25 '13 at 22:02
Try again, please. Open Source projects should now end up in the correct section. – Max Feb 26 '13 at 14:23
It works correctly now. Thanks! – R. Martinho Fernandes Feb 26 '13 at 21:11
