In my humble opinion the tag should not be used or even exist. There is no such class within the iOS SDK and very few questions are using that tag.

On the other side, there is a tag named which represents an existing class within the MediaPlayer SDK, part of the iOS SDK. That tag is very commonly used and well understood.

Adding as a tag does in my opinion not add any value to the system but actually does trigger needless fragmentation.

Hence I am hereby asking to discuss the removal of that tag to get to a well suited result and or proper explanation on the need of that tag.

I disagree. MPMoviePlayer refers more toward the the MediaPlayer framework as a whole, and maybe it should be renamed, but there's also MPMoviePlayerViewController as a class to deal with. Blindly retagging/removing here is not the option. –  Richard J. Ross III Mar 22 '13 at 19:55

I disagree with the given example Richard. MPMoviePlayer certainly does not cover the MediaPlayer framework as a whole - that would obviously leave out the MPMusicPlayerController. –  Till Mar 22 '13 at 19:57

That's correct, however, the two tags aren't equivalent, and while this tag may be somewhat ambiguous, it's clear that the solution is not a wipe of the tag entirely. –  Richard J. Ross III Mar 22 '13 at 20:00

That I think would be a great solution, I agree with that @RichardJ.RossIII. So we should take out the ambiguous aspect and possibly rename that tag. –  Till Mar 22 '13 at 20:01

if anything it sounds like you're asking for a tag-synonym on Stack Overflow for that tag. –  jcolebrand Mar 23 '13 at 6:06

Well, I still think that using that tag is irritating and that it should be renamed. I do not think that a synonym would do. –  Till Mar 23 '13 at 14:17
