Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I have a data dump from closed Digital Preservation proposal, which is important enough for me, and I want to host it myself. However, I can't include backlinks to "original Q/A" because the pages I bookmarked now return 404s.

What should I do in this case?

Though I don't know if that is the recommended/best practice, perhaps you can simply link back to the location of the data dump in this case? area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/39787/digital-preservation perhaps? – Bart Mar 23 '13 at 9:38
