Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Currently, the tag has 399 questions, and the tag has 40 questions.

There seems to be some confusion as what the tag is used for, since the newly-created excerpt for states:

The provider model is a design pattern formulated by Microsoft for use in the ASP.NET Starter Kits and formalized in .NET version 2.0. It is used to allow an application to choose from one of multiple implementations or "condiments" in the application configuration, for example, to provide access to different data stores to retrieve login information, or to use different storage methodologies such as a database, binary to disk, XML, etc

which is clearly incorrect, since the tag is also used in conjunction with , , , , , and pretty much anything else you can think of.

So... does need to get merged into ? The other way around? Tag synonym? Burninated? Something else?

I think both need to be manually retagged to android-contentprovider, provider-model, and whatever tag is appropriate for the other meanings of the word (which I'm unfamiliar with). – Gilles Mar 25 '13 at 22:04
I've edited the providers wiki excerpt to something neutral (the text was a WP copyvio anyway). – Gilles Mar 25 '13 at 22:05
