UPDATE: there are several scenarios for editing:
- Editing (with full editing privileges) is done inside the original question URL and can be cancelled by ESC.
- Edit suggestions (without editing privileges) is done on a separate URL - possible to use browser back button to go back.
- Editing on a new tab - obviously you can use Ctrl+Shift+Tab to go to the previous tab.
- Viewing history/Revisions is done on a new URL - browser back button.
Due to this inconsistency I sometimes press back button (on my mouse) when I want to cancel an edit - this returns me to the previous page instead of just cancelling the edit (I need to press forward button to return to the question then). On the other hand, sometimes I press ESC when viewing revisions - this triggers no actions.
I wonder if it's just me or it would be useful to upate the URL hash (fragment identifier) while editing (e.g.
#edit) to support back functionality while editing?
Alternatively what about handling ESC keypress on the revisions page?
