Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

It seems Oddthinking managed to break the automated linkifier while linking to a docx file. I'm not positive it has anything to do with .docx files, or perhaps urls without a www. prefix, but the effect can be found in this sandbox answer.

Here's the question it occurred on (now fixed, although I'm not sure what i did)

Edit: It wasn't related to the .docx extension at all, there are weird, non-printable chars in the URL. Could these be stripped out perhaps?

Very strange. Nothing appears to be wrong with the URL itself: gruart2010.edublogs.org/files/2010/09/… – Richard J. Ross III May 1 '13 at 15:37

@RichardJ.RossIII - Exactly! There was nothing wrong I could see, but editing the post, deleting some of the url and typing it back in verbatim fixed it – Jamiec May 1 '13 at 15:38
