I host at GoDaddy and tried setting up my site but it's not working. The settings I have are:

ARecord @ 64.34.80.165 CNAME www lbny-se.fogcreek.com

Is this right? Thanks! Beth

Yesterday, I bought www.askprotrader.com on GoDaddy and set up StackExchange there. I'm trying to explain this in details.

Now, you probably have 3 possible ways to access your site: foo.stackexchange.com, foo.com and www.foo.com where foo is your killer domain name in COM zone.

Finally, all these URLs should forward us to only one site. It is very important to get rid of problems with OpenID authentication, Google pessimisation etc. And this site should be www.foo.com.

Do not add A record @ 64.34.80.165 to foo.com DNS. foo.com should forward us to www.foo.com (not to FogCreek site).

Add CNAME www lbny-se.fogcreek.com to foo.com DNS and set www.foo.com as a site alias on foo.stackexchange.com admin page. Result: you can reach you StackExchange-powered site by www.foo.com address.

Then select www.foo.com as a primary site on foo.stackexchange.com admin page. Result: if you enter foo.stackexchange.com, you will be automatically forwarded to www.foo.com.

Now, you need to setup HTTP 301 permanent forwarding of foo.com to www.foo.com. Look for Forwarding option on GoDaddy's Domain Information page (setup Forward Only to www.foo.com and it will add correct ARecord to DNS automatically). Result: if you enter foo.com, you will be automatically forwarded to www.foo.com.

Personally, at godaddy, I just set my Arecord to 64.34.80.165 and it worked (but, I wouldn't guarantee that this is correct, I am only saying that my site is now live on my specific domain name).

yeah that's right...note if you are not seeing the correct result, its most likely a problem on your end(cached DNS). Go visit your domain through a proxy and see if it works.

It'll take like about a day for your browser to update the DNS info
