Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

In the interface, up the very top, to the right I see the following:

Envelope, Username, Reputation, Down Arrow, Number

What does the number represent?

Hover with your mouse over it and look at the tooltip. – Ladybug Killer Sep 1 '09 at 6:50
Thanks. I wonder why it was displaying as an arrow before – Casebash Sep 1 '09 at 10:52

I'm assuming the "down arrow" is ●, which renders as a circle in my browser. This is a bronze badge, and the number to the right of it is the number that you have. In this case, you have 2.

We now use CSS image sprites for this.
