Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

It'd be nice if question owners could flag their own closed questions for migration from the other StackOverflow sites.

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "This question pertains only to a specific site in the Stack Exchange Network. Questions on Meta Stack Exchange should pertain to our network or software that drives it as a whole, within the guidelines defined in the help center. You should ask this question on the meta site where your concern originated." – Martijn Pieters, Shadow Wizard, CRABOLO, doppelgreener
If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

I think it would be nice if users could migrate even non-closed questions.

"Belongs on" is a close option, now. Jeff will have to confirm if it auto-migrates like the option does.

Not sure about the old posts, though. I think they may just have to be reposted, or manually moved by Jeff, et al.

It's currently possible for moderators to move questions over here from either SO or SF. Your best bet would be to flag your post and ask for it to be moved. If the moderator agrees, they will move the question for you.

I believe that there are features in the works for mass migration, but as long as you have just two or three you want moved over this solution should work.

Thanks I'll look into that. – John MacIntyre Jul 2 '09 at 22:36

Jeff's just posted this on the blog describing the new migration process.

Thanks ChrisF, the problem is how do you move one that's closed already? – John MacIntyre Jul 15 '09 at 1:50
Don't know - e-mail or flag it? – ChrisF Jul 15 '09 at 8:02

I was about to ask the following question but I think it belongs here.

Why not let people with 'x' amount of rep vote to migrate from the current site (SO/SF/MS/SU) to one of the others?

This would take the manual work out of it, remove the burden from moderators, and still have a safety mechanism built in just like 'vote to close'.

This is already done. :) If you vote to close a question as "belongs to ...." it gets moved to that site if that's the winning close reason. – Paolo Bergantino Jul 7 '09 at 5:48
I must have been reading old posts, I don't have enough rep to do that yet =) – colithium Jul 7 '09 at 18:29
